A fim de melhorar as traduções em processo no Mormon Translation, vou fazer umas postagens aqui de esboços da tradução do livro Lectures on Faith (Discursos sobre a fé) em português. A meta é para completar a tradução desse valioso livro, até 1920 publicado junto com o Doutrina e Convênios, mas como o livro usa uma linguagem bastante filosófica, será necessário muita ajuda para fazer a tradução. O site Mormon Translation existe para facilitar e coordenar a tradução por muitas pessoas. Por favor nos ajude nesse processo!!

DISCURSO PRIMEIRO

Sobre a Doutrina da Igreja de Jesus Cristo dos Santos dos Últimos Dias, originalmente proferido à frente de uma classe dos Élderes, em Kirtland, Ohio.1 A FÉ sendo o primeiro princípio da religião revelada e a fundação de toda a retidão, necessariamente reclama o primeiro lugar numa série de palestras que se projetam a revelar ao entendimento a doutrina de Jesus Cristo.

2 Ao apresentar o tema da fé, seguiremos a seguinte ordem:

3 Primeiro, a Fé mesma: o que é.

4 Segundo, o objeto sobre o qual ela se baseia; e

5 Terceiro, os efeitos que emanam dela.

6 De acordo com esta ordem, devemos mostrar primeiro o que é a fé.

7 O autor da epístola aos Hebreus, no décimo primeiro capítulo desta epístola e o primeiro versículo, dá a seguinte definição da palavra fé:

8 “Ora, a fé é a certeza (garantia) de coisas que se esperam, a convicção de fatos que se não vêem.”

Lectures on Faith

Lecture First

On the Doctrine of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, originally delivered before a Class of the Elders, in Kirtland, Ohio.

1 Faith being the first principle in revealed religion, and the foundation of all righteousness, necessarily claims the first place in a course of lectures which are designed to unfold to the understanding the doctrine of Jesus Christ.

2 In presenting the subject of faith, we shall observe the following order:

3 First, faith itself – what it is.

4 Second, the object on which it rests;

5 and third, the effects which flow from it.

6 Agreeable to this order we have first to show what faith is.

7 The author of the epistle to the Hebrews, in the eleventh chapter of that epistle, and first verse, gives the following definition of the word faith:

8 “Now faith is the substance (assurance) of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”
